The Main National Portal: eTender Publication Portal
The eTender Publication Portal is the mandatory publication point for all national and provincial government tenders above R500,000. If a tender is not on eTender, it is not a valid national or provincial tender. Register for a free account (you need a valid email and CSD number), set up email alerts for specific commodity codes, and download tender documents directly in PDF format.
💡 Always confirm on eTender. Never rely on a third-party site. Always verify the tender is published on eTender before investing time in preparation.
Municipal Tenders
Municipalities are not all required to publish on the national eTender portal. Many use their own websites or dedicated municipal tender portals — and these often have less competition, making them ideal for SMMEs starting out.
Go directly to the municipality's website and look for a "Tenders" or "Supply Chain Management" section. For smaller municipalities without online systems, phone the Supply Chain Management (SCM) unit directly and ask to be added to their tender notification list.
⚠️ Phishing risk: Never search "municipality tenders" on Google and click the first result. Always navigate from the official .gov.za homepage of the municipality you are interested in.
State-Owned Entities (SOEs)
SOEs manage their own procurement on dedicated portals. Registering on CSD is not enough — many SOEs require a separate supplier database registration before you can bid.
| SOE | Official Tender Portal |
|---|---|
| Eskom | tenderbulletin.eskom.co.za |
| Transnet | Transnet Supplier Portal |
| SANRAL | nra.co.za/tenders |
| PRASA | prasa.com/tenders |
| SITA (ICT tenders) | sita.co.za |
| DBSA | dbsa.org |
A Better Workflow: Stop Hunting, Start Bidding
Manually checking six portals every morning is exhausting. A smarter approach: set up email alerts on eTender for your commodity codes, bookmark the tender pages of your top 3 municipalities and 2 SOEs, and dedicate 30 minutes every Monday to scan all of them.
Tender Aid's eTenders Live Feed connects directly to the national portal so you can browse, filter, and open a Tender Workspace for any opportunity with one click — without leaving the platform.
